From the village to Vake

Bagebi is a rapidly growing and prestigious small area in the Vake district, in the southwestern part of Tbilisi. Located on the edge of Vake, this settlement is becoming increasingly popular, which is why it is often called the "New Vake".

In the past, Bagebi was a village-type settlement, where Tskneti peasants had vegetable gardens. This is where its name comes from - "Baga", which means a place for storing cattle feed in Boseli. It was annexed to Tbilisi in 1961, and development began in the 1980s. The architect of the district is B. Maminaishvili. The residential area was to be built along the Tskneti highway, in the form of several terraced residential complexes connected to each other. Unfortunately, the work was not fully completed. The student dormitory became the calling card of the district (a high-rise building was placed here in the 1970s and was one of the first buildings).

Over time, Bagebi has experienced a migration of upper-class society from the central districts of Tbilisi. Many private houses and country houses have been built here. The convenient location of Bagebi allows residents to enjoy all the benefits characteristic of the center of Tbilisi and at the same time green zones. Vake Park, universities and other public facilities are located a few minutes' walk away. In 2024, a 532-meter bridge connecting the district with University Street was opened, which had a positive impact on the infrastructural development of the district.

Tbilisi has witnessed the so-called Bagebi miracle, the district's population has almost doubled in recent times, while prices have increased by almost 20% annually, and today the cost of 1 m exceeds 5,000 GEL.
